something sprouted in my vanda

i got this small vanda tricolor suavis a few months ago. a few days after i received it in the mail from puerto rico, i noticed what looked like a little cactus seedling. i also grow epiphytic cacti, so i was stoked to see what it would eventually grow into. but now it has grown a leaf????????

does this look familiar to anyone?



should i let it go? or yank it out? pot it by itself? toss it? the plant is in a small 3.5" pot with bark. doing ok.

Look like a plumeria seedling, if I had to guess. I would wait till it gets a little bigger and then carefully remove it and plant it in its own pot with free draining potting mix.

i think i will do exactly that. it seems happy where it is for now, and as long as someone doesn't identify it as some sort of parasite orchids strangling vine or something, i'll wait and see what it is. i like getting free ferns this way, never had anything else pop up before this. at least not in an orchid anyway.

I acquired a tricolor suavis a few months ago , also from Puerto Rico, must be same vendor I didn't receive a free plant.my guess would have been crown of thorns or a euphorbia succulent, be interesting what it turns out to be.

Pachypodium cactus...they generally turn out to be a very very spikey thing. That or a cactus rose/crown of thorns...when it gets larger you will be able to tell better.

Looks very much like a Euphorbia milii or as Chris calls it the 'Crown of Thorns'. It has many colour forms and at one time was very popular here and in Thailand because it was believed to bring good luck to the grower. I would remove it from the orchid pot and plant it separately. In some parts of the world they are grown as hedges around garden plots and even settlements.
