Paph Edna Ratcliffe or Lyro Blackhawk??

This is the one I posted earlier on another thread that was labeled Paph gardineri x St. Swithin.
The pics I saw on Google have maroon pouch, this one got yellow . The inside of the pouch have maroon veining though. It seems that the dorsal sepals are not going to stand upright, its been more than a week since the first one flower open and its still hunched over like that, like a parasol for the pouch.
BTW, I named it P Thumbilina (just for me of course) because the pouch is the same size as my thumb...lol.

Just going by pouch color, I'd vote for Lyro. I haven't seen an Edna that doesn't have a dark pouch.

weird, but all I see is a philippinense... which would in my opinion be even better as it is the best orchid in the whole wide world

just had to add that I'm sorry I'm not any more help... and that it so very much looks like my philippinense...

I was going to say philippinense as well.

Here's a photo of my Lyro Blackhawk the last time it bloomed - it looks like it has a darker pouch as well.

No matter what it turns out to be, I think it's a lovely plant.

Tim, weird that you mention philippinensis. When I searched for images for philippinensis, one turned up that look exactly like mine. It was being auctioned as philippinensis semi alba. I wanted a St. Swithin or something look like, but if this turn out to be a philippinensis, weeell........

I agree with Tim in that your photo is reminiscent of pure philippinense. The smallish dorsal with the pure white background and the decidedly yellow pouch are both hallmarks of philippinense. you would expect glanduliferum or wilhelminiae to darken the pouch and the petals. I don't see any roth influence whatsoever in that photo.

I have one more question--if you didn't stake the spike straight up, would it have been semi-pendent? Most philippinense have spikes that go straight up initially but then go more or less horizontal, so that the flowers are all in a horizontal plane. roth is stiffly upright, and glanduliferum/wilhelminiae are both rather upright if I recall.

The spike was upright when I bought it. But as the buds develop it became more and more droopy. I think you are right, the spike will grow horizontal if I didn't stake it.

laevigatum is a term bandied about by certain growers to sell more plants, but most people consider it an invalid variety. the consensus right now is that there is only one "real" variety, roebelenii, with very long twisty petals. some say that this should be a separate species based on staminode differences and plant habit differences, but who knows. forma album of course exists.

I would just call it philippinense and enjoy the blooms each spring!

I agree with Jason! Why don't we just call it as that (since it is most most likely the case here) and enjoy the beautiful blossoms?
