The plant shouldn't mind disturbance if it's not flowering. When in bloom, you always run the risk of loosing some flowers or near-to-blooming buds, should the plant get pissed off.

As for wet medium, if it hasn't broken down, in need of replacing, it will dry out fairly quickly, so you shouldn't need to dry it out. Just don't water too frequently now. Sounds like you have a good root base. That's the best news!

If the break on the leaf was recent, it may yellow and may fall off. Many times they'll split or break and keep on growing fine. It's when whole leaves start yellowing and dying that you have a more serious problem. A break is not a sign of slow death - it's easily recoverable.

Sounds like you're doing fine. Err on the side of watering a bit less. Let it just dry out between waterings. When in doubt, wait a day. You should do well!
