mushrooms on my orchid media

Hi orchid lovers and experts,

Due to anomaly weather condition in my city lately, high humidity and heat, there are many mushrooms growing on my orchid media. What should I do? Should I terminate them or just let them grow? Considering that orchids need certain fungus to germinate in the nature, my friend who owns an orchid plantation suggested to leave the mushrooms growing in order to feed the orchids. Well, I am not so certain about it because the mushrooms are growing very fast.

i had some oyster mushrooms pop up in a cymbidium pot. they fruited every early spring and midsummer for 3 years before i had to repot the orchid. they didn't come back. i thought they were really cool... kinda miss them.

Oh good, I am glad that I am not the only person who has had the odd mushroom appear in their orchid pots. I have had them appearing in one of my Phrags. and one of my Phals. Now I know what to do - thanks Ray!

I often experience same problem due to high humidity in my region. The mushrooms appear even on mounted oncidiums sometimes. It usually does not bother me unless they appear in potted Cattleyas. Then, you have to get rid of them, repot\replace the growing media.

Thank you for your recipe. I always use cinnamon powder on my plants (fresh cuts etc.) but never tried it as a solution.

This morning I discovered mushrooms growing out of the bottom of one of my pots. All my orchids are in an eastern windowsill for the winter, I have had a humidifier running to combat the dry heat in the house. The temp is about 70 all the time (due to the teenager who is always cold) in the area that the orchids are in. Would I use Ray's recipe as a spray on the bottom directly on the mushrooms? This is a new odd development for me....
