Here is another Vanda (Neofinetia) falcata: Fuji Nishiki 富士錦 "Bicycle of Fuji". This plant demonstrates the allure of these plants. This is a larger plant with four growths and two babies. It has three blooming stalks with eleven blooms/buds. It is very fragrant, sort of reminds me of ladies sachet with a touch of jasmine.
I'm showing you four photos:the first photo is the plant. The second photo is a close up of the leaves. This stripping is called "tiger leaf" but as you can see it is not consistent on all leaves. The Japanese have a name for this inconsistency--which I can't recall!
The third photo shows a close up of the roots. The roots of Vanda falcata are highly prized, some roots are ruby tipped, or green, etc. this plant's roots are white. The roots I think give this plant's obscure name, if you look at it from above, the roots radiate from the center of the plant, like bicycle spokes!
The fourth photo is a close up of the plant's base. Notice how each leaf attaches to the base? This entire area is known as "tsuke" this plant's tsuke would be considered "crescent moon" with reddish brown color. (Note: I haven't figured out how I can order theses photos in the right sequence.)
