Update: Well, it has been 2 wks. since my Phal repotting, and since then, it has lost all its flowers. I do think it was heading toward the end of its flowering cycle. Otherwise, it appears to look healthy.
I must say I am having more difficulty determining WHEN to water it, as the bark doesn't feel damp like I was able to tell with the sphagnum moss. So, I am just giving it a watering once a week. Then, I guess if I were to see some sickly signs, I will assume I will need to water more often? While I have not gotten into a routine Re: watering frequency, I still feel better about its new medium that I repotted it in. In the meantime, I just bought another Phal from the same grocery store florist where my son bought my first one. They are trying to clear them out, as most appear they are at the end of their blooming period. So, I got it 1/2 off, but didn't tell that to my son. This time, I immediately pulled it out of the secondary pot. Happily, it didn't have a lot of the root system growing out of the bottom, nor did any of the roots appear dead. It just put out 2 more pretty blooms, and again, I suspect that it might be finished flowering. So, I will wait until all its blooms have fallen off, and then I will do the bark recipe repotting as I did for my first Phal. Meanwhile, I will be even more cautious than ever when I water its sphagnum moss-based potting! It felt good to bring home another friend....woohoo...2 orchids for Jane now. I can only imagine how you Senior Members are grinning and shaking your head. Got to start somewhere, right!?
