Sue posted this one a while back but I believe my plant comes out with darker color! It has been blooming for many weeks. Finally I got the chance the take the photo! Intriguing scent but no where as great as the fragrance of the picta or tenuifolia.

I had a tag for this one (it is a cross) but during re-potting the plant, somehow it got lost! I think this cymbidium might get an award if well-grown!

Hi Julie,
These large flower standard cyms have no fragrance. I am surprised that not many people post their cymbidium pictures. It is the peak of cymbidium flowering season in the last few months! Right now, it is pretty much the tail end of their blooming season. At my last few orchid society meetings, people brough in so many cyms and catts. Quite a show!

I understand the chinese Cyms are fragrant, and I'm toying with the idea of a tracyanum. Not that I have room for itty bitty plants, let alone humongous ones!

Two of my cymbidium hybrids, one standard and one a mini have a very distinct fragrance. Neither of them have a floral fragrance, more like a 'fresh' fragrance. While not usually a heavy fragrance, when they are inside and the sun hits the blossoms - Yummmmm! Kinda like the smell of a florists shop - no one distinct flower fragrance, but all that fresh greenery smell....

That is OK, O-Diane!
However, I would not attribute that to fragrance. I would call it "smell". If you are lucky, maybe you could get a fragrant standard cym. Many of standard cym species used to create hybrids in distant past are fragrant (tracyanum to make spots and stripes cyms, hookerianum, eburnum, just to name a few). So I surmise that the fragrance genes are still lurking somewhere in our many thousand cym hybrids. Miniature hybrids might get their fragrance from the parent species. Many of these miniature cym species are extremely fragrant!
BTW, I only refer to the above three standard cymbidium plants, which have no fragrance that my senstitive nose can detect.
