I love these roots. If you have space for them I wouldn't do anything to this plant.

Nicholas, that is Sam he is a border collie / beagle mix, one of the best 'hybrids' ever. Now that I see the plant and roots, that is outstanding and I would not do a thing to it , except maybe remove what I could of the old pot with a hammer or knife so no rot starts. Whatever you are doing is working great, you might want to try semi vanda watering. Beautiful job of growing.
I have orchids lik that and actually wish I repotted them before they got so crazy. They make a beautiful show, but the roots are always growing into the medium of the plants they hang above.
cheers,

Brutal Dreamer,
Thanks for your comments. I feel exactly the same way. I wish I had not let the roots grow so long. As I said I have never seen a Cattleya do this.
I guess now I will break the clay pot it is in and set the plant in a 10" wooden basket. I will probably bunch some of the roots up in the basket and let the
others hang down over the side. I would welcome any other thoughts from you. Thanks again.
Nicholas
Don't forget to post pictures when you've done it. I'm crazy over seeing other people's plants.
