Artificial Lights and Dendrobrium Winter Rest

My dendrobriums are grown under artificial lights. Assuming they need a winter rest. should the lights be turned off during this time?

Your dendrobiums will need light. Winter rest means less or no water depending on the variety of Dendrobium you have.

I have no experience of growing orchids under lights, but most hard-cane dendrobiums do not need a winter rest.

Many dendrobes that in nature get a winter rest also get higher light during that period. Some need cooler temps during rest.

I grow mine under artificial lights also, and the only difference in light they get is whatever makes it through the windows. The artificial lights stay on the same schedule.

Winter rest for my Den kingianum's & Den speciosum means no fert , little water but keep light levels as high as possible.

I agree with Steve. "Winter rest" really means "no nitrogen" more than anything else. The "more light", "cooler temperatures", and "no water" go right along with that, but are really "side effects" ("co-effects"?):

Essentially all of the food an epiphyte sees come about with rain cascading down through the forest canopy. Most "resters" live in areas where there are distinct seasonal changes, most often "wet" and "dry" (although is some instances, "dry" means nothing more than less than an inch a week). Cooler, drier air is often accompanied by less cloud cover, as well, so the obvious observances are in temperature, light level and rainfall, even though it's really the result of all of that, that matters.

I bright lights are one of the requirments, would it be a bad idea to move them to the east side window where they would get bright natural lights?
