We live in the eastern part of this varied State, where it is dry, windy, hot (in the summer) and cold (in the winter). The land is open and is mostly wheat fields that are cropped every other year to gather up enough moisture to grow a good crop. There are many basalt outcrops, it is basically volcanic under ground, but nothing that has been active for a very long time - not volcanoes, but lava flows back in prehistoric times. It is a sparse kind of beauty, but I've come to appreciate it.
