    Default Ludisia discolor (Jewel Orchid)

I love the foliage on these and also the flowers. Can't understand those growers who don't care for the blooms and grow only for the foliage. I know a few growers who remove the buds. What a pity. I find the flowers lovely and relatively long lasting. Have had this plant for two years. I purchased it at a show in Florida. This year there are 13 blooms/buds on it.

Nice job. I also like the leaves as well as the flowers when it comes to jewel orchids. Bill what kind of mix do you have yours growing in?

Thank you. Mine is growing in a mix of bark and moss. I have to repot it this spring and plan to keep it in the same mix since it has done so well.

I really enjoy mine. It grows in plain potting soil (moisture rententive). However, I am notorious for underwatering the poor thing. It still survives, thrives and blooms for me too. Great plants. If I mess up too badly with it, I chop a chunk off the end, stick it in water and (eventually, sometimes months later) pot it up when I get around to it. It grows in a plastic cup with water that runs out ever so often. I just treat mine like an African Violet, though it seems even tougher. I'm with you, I like the flowers as well as the foliage!

Beautiful! I agree - every time I read about Jewel's is the foliage that's focused on. It's great to see some of the blooms - they are very pretty. It seems to be quite a hardy plant as well - I may have to try one. Thanks for showing your wonderful plant.
