Default Ctt. Rudak x C. Orpetii

A new plant to the collection. Acquired with a batch of seedlings as a freebee. The new growth
    produced this.

So do I Amey but the color in real time is beautiful. The shape of a flower these days isn't of as much a concern as it used to be. I no long show in competition, I show for the members/public to see. I'm probably doing what I never used to & thats grow some pretty orchids.

Nice flower! This is influenced heavily by C. walkeriana as a grandparent (Ctt. Rudak = Ctt Aussie Sunset x C walkeriana). C. walkeriana has a very open lip which is very dominant for several generations. It also provides very good form and substance and limits number of flowers per spike. C. Orpetii is a primary cross of C. pumila (prev. Laelia) and C. coccinea (prev. Sophronitis). All in all, it looks like it's right on the money for expectations of the cross.

I appreciate both the form and color. When my wife showed dogs one of the better judges often used the term "too much". As dog breeders attempted to win, long haired dogs became very long haired dogs and dogs with large chests became dogs with massive chests. In orchid breeding, at least to me, some orchids have become too much and have an unnatural look. I appreciate the clean lines and striking color of this orchid. But, I am only an orchid hobbyist who does well to keep up with my plant records as my orchids change from genus to genus!
