Spring is an exciting time for us here in South-East Asia. Many of our local species are in bloom now, particularly the soft cane dendrobiums and certain vandas and Aerides. This is the season for Seidenfadenia mitrata to bloom. Seidenfadenia is a monotypic genus with this species as the only representative. It was originally classified as an Aerides but was only reclasssified as Seidenfadenia in 1972. I bought this Thai species from our local vendor about 3 years ago as a big clump mounted on a small piece of wood and I made the mistake of cutting this up into 3 divisions. 2 divisions died and this survived but took nearly 3 years to recover.
