Thanks Mietek and Kirk for the info. Just as I was getting to be comfortable calling my Asctm, Vanda .......... now all the novice growers in my group will be giving me weird looks and my status as sifu is greatly threatened. (joking, of course, the sifu part, that is_).

Yew, "sifu" has the same meaning like "shifu" = master, in Chinese language? If yes, don't be worry you are, for sure, for many orchid growers, the great shifu.

Yes Mietek, 'shifu' and 'sifu' have the same meaning , only pronounced in different Chinese dialects - in Malaysia we normally use the southern Cantonese dialect. Thanks for vote of confidence, Mietek; I was only joking and would never ever consider myself a 'sifu' in orchid matters. I'm still learning and will continue to learn, most probably until the day I die.

If it is any consolation, Yew, I still call these ascos and don't plan to stop anytime soon. If I say "Ascocentrum miniatum" people know what I am talking about -- not so with Vanda minatum. Besides which, the taxomomists will probably go on another name changing binge as soon as folks start to get used to all the new names.

Dear Yew Sung, you are an inspiration to all of us (enthusiastic, caring,sharing what you have learnt,passionate and very humble) and in my view, sifu title suits more aptly to you and agree with you that sifu's don't stop learning and continue to learn and that makes sifu's even more great.!!. Pray god that you live longer and happier and be around to share what you have learnt over these years.

Thank you Pavel. I'm not against change but it is difficult and it will take time to adjust. But in the meantime like you I think I'll continue using Ascocentrum.
