I have a small Jewel orchid I saved from the discount rack at a chain store, it was doing really well until about 2 weeks ago. I noticed the leaves dieing and I thought it was getting too much sun so I moved it. That didn't help so I took a closer look at it today, the stem where it went into the dirt was shriveled and filled with small, long maggot looking grubs. They reminded me of the critter I find on wild mushrooms.

I cut the very top of the plant off and threw the whole pot out, hopefully what is left will root for me. I made sure there wasn't any bugs left on what I kept. Has anybody heard of/seen things like this?
