Hey y'all! This guy just opened his first flower for me! It's beautiful, and I even love the plant when it's not in bloom. It's very compact and lush (unlike most Zygos I've had, which were leggy and tattered).

A very pretty zygo!
Great growing!
That's a very nice example of this cross, and the plant does look good. Not a Zygopetalum though... Zygolum Rhein Clown is Zygosepalum labiosum x Zygopetalum Arthur Elle.
Wow im begginning to like Zygo. Thanks for sharing
How could you not like zygos?![]()
I'm just worried about keeping it alive. They do scare me a little...my last one didn't do well (it was still green when I got rid of it, so it wasn't dead, but it was obviously on its way out)...but it was summer and my apartment stayed in the 90s while I was gone at work without the air on. I think that's what made it so unhappy. And it was potted in clay. I think I'm gonna stick with plastic this time.

a very healthy looking Zygo. thanks for sharing
Thanks for the lovely compliments and info everybody! Here is an update on the plant, with all four buds opened. Unfortunately, the buds weren't very uniform and were twisted about in a way that has them facing upside down/etc. so there's no position to truly get a good view of the full spike. Next will be better, hopefully!
And here is the Zygo with the lights off and my camera flash on. It gave a very dark essence to the plant...almost looks out of this world.
Anyway, I love love love this little plant! I really hope it lasts under my care. I know Zygo's have a bad rep for being fussy.
Beautiful Zygo, and very well grown
Looking great, Kelly! Well grown and bloomed.
cheers,
