I was given this plant a few years back. Got it up & running nicely. A second spike on the left. It has a reasonable scent, unlike some.

Unusual and beautiful
Beautiful Stanhopea! I have a lonely oculata...yet to bloom. I will keep this one in mind! What media are you using?

Just growing in small pine bark & perlite Jason. These need to have plenty of water, dryness is a no no. Dappled like at best & not necessarily hot. The don't mind cool, this is in a house that gets to 8c on a bad night. Loves food also.
I imagine that I'm giving mine more light than it needs but I'm keeping it well watered and fed. It's not burning, but I've read that shady conditions can encourage flowering.

Not sure about shade promoting flowering, maturity if anything. Shade is the key to growing, if you can only just, make a shade on the plant waving you hand over it in the brightest part of the day, thats enough light, no more. Could be even just a little more shade.
