An African orchid. Has small flask shaped bulbs which do not seem to last more than a few years ; It is supposed to like it shady and damp . I had two tries growing it that way, but the plants just faded away ; this third plant grows in a 4 inch pan of bark and Perlite, hanging up in as much light as anything gets in my collection, in the roof of the greenhouse. Now has three leads, all flowering, but not all at the same time - so far. Flowers maybe 9cm natural spread. But incidentally one of my unsuccessful plants came from the collection of the late Joyce Stewart , who knew more about African orchids than most people - she lived and worked there for many years and wrote some of the best books about African orchids - and that plant was not very good - to be brutally honest , so I think she had problems growing this species in England, too.
