Awesome, I really didn't want to cut the flower spike unless there was some benefit for doing so. I'm also moving soon and will have to transport this plant about 700 miles, but it shouldn't yet have any flowers by then so hopefully that will go smoothly. So I gather from what everyone said that it's generally best to just let orchids do their thing, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the advice

Thank you. It's a phalaenopsis. That bloom is from this past winter, but I do happen to have some close-ups:

Very nice Jason. Good job. Is it a NOID? (no identification).

I didn't realize that Phalaenopsis was just the genus, I thought it was the species of my orchid. I was wondering why you were asking me what it was, I thought I had already said haha. After doing some research just now I believe it is a Phal. Hita, and I also seen "sogo white" attached to that name in some places. It is a hybrid.

Agree... unlike many humans, including myself, orchids do just fine multitasking, putting out new roots, new leaves, and spikes ALL AT HE SAME TIME. My Phalaenopsis that was in the pantry for over a year and a half, has an acclimated very well to the mini greenhouse. I remember when I first put it in there and it's got its first NEW, big, root. In about 2 months, it shriveled up and I was convinced the plant was going to die. THAT 1ST BIG ROOT was replaced by many others/some have come and gone but the plant knows which it wants to keep and which it doesn't want to keep. It sorts itself out....isn't that amazing?

Thanks. I'm not actually sure, maybe every week or even every other week. I let it get pretty dry before I water it.
