I bought this Trichocentrum carthagenense at the end of May. It came almost bare root as it had depotted itself during shipping. Mid-July it began growing an inflorescence that grew to a full 5 feet long (as IOSPE said it would). It has 47 flowers that are about 1/2 inch wide by 3/4 inches tall that all opened within a day, once it started to open. A relatively small flower. It is, as I understand it, an oncidium relative. But does not have pb's. It is a rather mule ear looking leaf which is about 12- 14 inches tall. It has not started a new growth yet, but I assume it will for the next blooming cycle to happen.
Photographing this guy was very difficult with an auto-focus camera. Also, very difficult to show all 5 feet of the spike. And the color is somewhat brighter than in the pics because of the flash.
BTW- It took both my regular auto-focus camera and cell phone camera to get these 4 pics.
