Systemic fungicide

I have Physon but am confused wether it is considered systemic. From what I read on cable it appears to be only topical. Is there a systemic fungicide that could be used in place of Physon?

Anybody heard of using cinnamon instead? Just read it could be used, but Im sure its not systemic. Not sure if there is an advantage to systemic.

Perhaps it's good to know which fungus species you are trying to deal with. Certain fungicides are very good on certain species and totally ineffective on others. I am not familiar with Physon. I have heard and used Physan and Phyton. They are not the same as Physan is a topical antiseptic/disinfectant, whereas Phyton is a systemic.

Yes Monica, Physan 20 is only topical. You could look for compounds that contain Carbendazim or thiophenate methyl (clearys?)

Yep, Cleary's 3336 WP contains thiophenate methyl. It's good stuff, if pricey.

Cinnamon can be effective on mild cases and only when pure cinnamon. However it needs to be applied carefully to avoid roots as it can cause water to roll off the roots leading to dehydration. I usually turn mine into a paste and rub it specifically where I want to treat. I reserve this mostly as a way to treat surgical cuts or at tip of clipped stems.

Ray, when talking systematic pesticides what concentration we are talking about?!
My work is analyzing pesticides in sub ppb level so i was keeping myself away from buying those commercially available since they declare over 20% of it. Im afraid to contaminate all around

It's going to depend upon the particular product, of course, but I don't view them as being any different from topical compounds from an application perspective, and maybe their even better, as for the most part, the systemically-effective compound is a metabolite of the applied chemistry, not the chemical itself. A topical product is designed to affect whatever it hits, while many systemic products, even though they may have topical effects, degrade rapidly, with the systemic effects persisting, affecting only what "bites".

Considering using a systemic fungicide for my Bulbophyllium. When do you use systemic and when doe use topical?

It depends on the type of rot I suppose. These days we get ones that have a mix of both. I use a one that has both. Thiophenate methyl + mancozeb.
