Phals will be unhappy under 60 F. A couple degrees below 60 is ok but I wouldn't go below 55 ever for a phal.

Sounds like you live close to me. Im not sure what difference it would make to alternate as a way to maintain proper temps. I think as long as watering, temp, and lighting are still maintained the orchid will continue on.

Obviously just avoid direct sun when outdoors during the day.
