Rootless cattleyas having flowers

Hi all,

I spitted some child orchid plants of my Lc. Gold Digger 'Fuch Mandarin' from last November. Some plans have no roots and some just have 1 or 2 roots before. Until now they don't have any new roots and some of these are developing the flowers. Do i need to chop off new flowers to save the plan? They are now in my mini green house and having humidity tray underneath for having move humid. I spray the water to them everyday and superthrive plus fertilizer once week. Did i do anything wrong? Please look at the picture so you can have some idea. Thanks.

is this their normal blooming time or is to caused by stress.?. catts look healthy to me and I would possibly allow it to bloom and enjoy it. I am no expert on catts so would wait for other members to chip in

This the blooming season for this hybrid and they are blooming using the reserve food material from the pseudobulbs. As long as you maintain them the way you mention until they produce new roots you should be fine. I would remove the buds if you want a healthy new growth, but considering the size of your divisions, it will be some time before the new ones flowers so you could very well enjoy the blooms. As soon as they flower you could remove from the plant and treat them as cut flowers.

When imported catts are brought to Trinidad from Thailand, the roots are usually dead. When i purchase one, I just mount it in a slat basket and enjoy the blooms. I water everyday as it's mounted and eventually it grows roots, however the blooms don't last long. So enjoy your blooms and don't worry.

Looks like you have the orchid potted too deep. The roots when growing will go into the media, but the psudobulbs should not be buried. If they remain how they are, the psudobulbs will rot and the plant will firstly drop leaves before dying. I would personally remove the flowers to let the plant have a chance of growing.

Yes, you're right. I am using these plants with the Leca pellets that cannot hold the plants very well so that i bury them deep inside the pot to keep the plants stand up. I already cut the flowers because some of them look not healthy, besides that the bulbs skin started wrinkling because of lost water i guess. Thanks,
