My max tenuifolia was sold to me and remains in that pot with the regular bark mix. As you may know, I tend to moisten my orchids every couple days here in dry Colorado. So it does get watered every other day and has grown well since I have had it. It has lost only 3 or 4 'leaves' since 12/13 when I bought it. I think it will be mature enough to flower this year. When I bought it there were no 'stacked' pbs yet. Now there are a bunch. I did give it a semi-dry rest this winter. Watered it only once a week.
I think Yug says that they should never dry out. I couldn't tell you how dry the inside of my pot is every other day, but I do hear crunching if I squeeze the pot (sounds dry). Yet my max seems to love my care.
So in summary, I have had good luck with growing Max tenuifolia in bark here in Colorado.
