Thanks guys. The way mine is set up, the shutters & exhaust fan are triggered at 75 degreees, and the swamp cooler at 85.
Yes, I have put higher light plants in the front (it's really only part of the front wall that gets late-afternoon, near-horizontal rays that burn), but I think I still may have to add a little shade there as summer comes.

I haven't grown vandas in the past, but am looking forward to trying them now!

North-South is the best orientation - the sun rises on one side, sets on the other - hence both sides get some direct sun ; but then of course ( since I was a lawyer until I retired, and can argue both sides of any question) there is some advantage in having a brighter side and a darker side- it make it easier to suit the location in the greenhouse to the needs of the plant - and you get to spend your whole life moving plants around trying to finds the best spot .... ( joke ? maybe ! )

Kathi - reverse those thermostats. If the swamp cooler comes on at a lower temperature, it might keep the environment cooler and more humid, and delay the exhaust fan. As it is, with the exhaust fan already running, any cool air from the swamp cooler is being sucked right out of the structure.
