Cattleya Potinara query

Has anyone had new leaves on their Catt Potinaras that don't split. I have two with new growths on them they feel quite lumpy inside but I cant see a split at the top of the leaf where it will open up like my other Catts do. Will I need to give it a hand or will it split in due course? If the lumpy bits inside are buds will they push their way through? I don't want them trapped. Any advise will be welcome thanx.

So is it a cattleya or a potinara? Also, what type? I've had potinara's that don't have split leaves.

I think I understand the question.

I think she is referring to unfolding the 2 sides of the one leaf.

I think the question is about a sheath (with buds inside) rather than a leaf. In most cases, a sheath would appear at the top of a pseudobulb that also has a normal leaf or leaves. Usually, a sheath will split on its own at the proper time to allow the buds to emerge.

78terp is right the 2 sides to the one leaf i eventually gave them a squeeze and the leaf popped like a pea pod and now the sheath is growing up past the leaf

Thanks. I have a phal doing the same thing so I went and fiddled with it and opened it up. It seemed to be stuck closed.
