Would it be possible to switch rooms with your son? Have you done the shadow tests for your other windows? Depending on MANY factors, you might get enough sun in other areas for the phals at least. I'm very lucky in that my little house gets SO much sun that I can literally put the phals wherever and reserve the best spots for the more demanding plants. They've even invaded my bathrooms! I am stunned that hubby hasn't commented about THAT yet! Who doesn't want to see a beautiful plant when they're sitting on the bowl though?! I even keep orchid books in the bathrooms in case anyone gets curious...LMAO! I am totally serious too!

Switching rooms wont work In my room there are orchids too Under lights though. I have windows in all directions E W N and S but all of them under too much roof so its not that bright for all types of orchid. I have few in bathroom too and half of kitchen table also occupied with plants amaryllis - orchid mix.

Haha! Yep, you're definitely using all of your available space then! How do you have the lights set up? Above a table or desk? I'd love to see pics if you have a chance. I'm thinking of purchasing a collection of seedlings and if I do, I'm going to have to set something up for them because I am quickly running out of space. I have a shed I can use but it's probably not insulated well enough. There are always portable greenhouses but I really cannot afford anything like that right now. Dilemma dilemma! We rent this house so I cannot do anything too drastic. We're here long term until we buy a home...and when we do, it's going to have a greenhouse. That is a must! If I can ever semi-retire, I want to be able to have a little orchid business. It would probably do quite well in this area. There is only one that I know of and it's in the next county over and they sold me a dead Dewey Forest 'Kudos' (yes, I'm still upset about that).

On the bright side, today I discovered another area where I can put more plants. I have been under utilizing my front door way. It gets great sun throughout the day so I'm going to need to put a few shelves there. The space was previously occupied by my 5 foot Silver Gum Eucalyptus tree. I moved it outside yesterday because it's giving me a hard time and I thought maybe it would behave better if it lived outside for the summer. Honestly, I don't know what these eucalyptus want from me! I've tried everything. They live on but they dry up and get all crinkly and just look like they're unhappy. They make me crazy. If anyone knows much about them, please let me know. I haven't had much luck finding valuable information online when it comes to them. END RANT!
