Dendrobium Hibiki (laevifolium x bracteosum )

Here's a delightful little dendrobium, ideal for the terrarium and for space-challenged growers. This little fellow seems to inherit the best of both parents - free flowering, long lasting blooms (a month or more), attractive colour, a real miniature (the blooming p-bulb is only 1 1/2 ins tall ), tolerant of a wide range of temperature. BTW this plant is still in its original thumbpot.

Thanks Zainal. You should try this cross. The individual flowers are larger than bracteosum and a well grown clump will provide a spectacular show. Even though the laevifolium is an intermediate grower, this hybrid will flower well under lowland conditions.

That is a real beauty Yew-Sung and I have to find one if I can, I am trying to stop buying at 250 orchids but this site is not a good thing when you are trying to stop buying I keep seeing ones I have to have!

It is good to set a limit target but it's easier said than done. I once had around 1500 in the early 1970s (my second collection)but that included about 800 of Aranda Christine and Wendy Scott and a couple of hundred asssorted 1/4 terete Vandas which gave me quite a good extra income selling the cut flowers to our local florist. I even had plans to expand my cut flower collection to around 4000 but had a serious illness in late 1970s and had to sell my collection to a nursery.At the moment I have about 400 plants, which I think is quite manageable. I still buy a few mostly to replace those I kill.

I have one purchased in flower last October and it's doing very well in a NW window that gets sun in the late afternoon and evening. 3 new pseudobulbs since I got it and when I checked a few minutes ago there is another just poking through.
