Cinnamon is not recommended for application to roots. It is too harsh for them.

I would soak that phal, unpotted in a fungicide solution for 15 minutes or so. Then let it dry up a bit but not completely. Roots are more pliable when damp/wet. Then I think you can pot it up in the bark mix that has been soaked for at least 24 hours.

I have a phal that has a similar situation and it has been living with it since I received it over a year ago. Its new leaves don't show the problem so I think it can survive.

I think it is likely at the present time the black is only on the one leave (It don't know the technical term for that part of the leaf). It hasn't made it thru to the next leaf up.
