Oncidium Alliance Hybrid

Sorry another question, another new orchid___

I have just bought this Oncidium from our local nursery, the label only describes it as, Oncidium Alliance Hybrid, so I don't know the name of it.. My question is, can I safely put this indoors in my bright and sunny bedroom, or must it be outside on the patio...Also, the pseudo bulbs look very shrivelled, I have watered it, but not sure if that is enough....

My problem seems to be knowing how much light to give all my orchids! I currently have, Phals indoors, Cymbinium outdoors on the patio, Oncidiums outdoors in a pot under a cane Palm, not sure if that is too much or not enough light for my Oncidiums.... arghhhh!

I think this forum is for sharing knowledge and asking questions enables sharing and learning. I dont think you should be sorry about asking questions.

Coming to this Intergeneric Oncidium, This looks like Aliceara (Beallara) Peggy Ruth Carpenter. I could be wrong.

You can grow it in bright light. You can try with outdoors first (under shade) and if you notice any bleaching of leaves in first 1-2 days, you can move them indoors.

If it is bought from a box store, I would check the potting media and repot it once the blooms are over

What Sriram said and I don't think you need to worry about the pb's. The older ones will shrivel when it flowers and as the new growth comes in. They are drawing moisture and nutrients away from the older pb's. Be sure when you water to take the pot out of the decorative container and give it a really good soaking. Then let it drain for half an hour before you put it back. Don't leave it in that container if you put it outside unless it has a drainage hole.

Try to protect it from too much wind Janet. It will damage the flowers for sure.

If I decide to bring it indoors, there won't be much air movement around it will there? So will that be a problem too?

It would be best if there was some movement, but that is not a deal breaker in my opinion. Is it humid where you live? Indoors too?

Hi Harvey, no it's not humid at the moment as its winter, even though we are having warm days of 24degs, but summer time is extremely humid and hot!
I initially placed it very near to a window which faces north (I live in sub tropical Queensland) therefore is bright, sunny and warm, but only until midday to early afternoon when the sun moves to the other side of the house, then it's not soo bright, I'm soo confused where to put it now! I would love to leave it in my bedroom by the window, but worried that it's not super bright all day...

A couple of hours of bright light (not direct) may be around 3000-4000 fc would be great for this genera. You can try growing it by bedroom window and try observing the behavior of the plant and then decide.

Another aspect water accordingly and not too soggy with fan on I think should be ok.
