I don't think that keeping the roots stable on this type is as important as cattleyas. My Howard's Dream is kept bare root in partial water. It has produced a nice spike of blossoms since it went bare root. It likes lots of water and the only way I could keep it from dehydrating was to keep the tips of the roots in water all of the time.
