Default Berry many spikes (24)on Dend. Berry 'Oda'

Attachment 83574Attachment 83576

I have changed my culture slightly with these Australian dendrobiums ;' now I grow as wet as possible in the summer, and then - which I think is the secret of the glorious flowering, rest dry and very bright; in fact I keep them with the cattleyas in the winter.

It looks very much like a really strong coloured D. kingianum, which in fact is 50% of the cross - the other half being made up of equal parts of two other Aussie dendrobiums - I forgot which at the moment.
By the way, its in a 5 inch pot, growing in bark and perlite.

I wish I could put it up to the RHS Committee and hope for a CCC ( Cultural Commendation) but the only meeting of the Orchid Committee this month is at Kew , and whilst that is perhaps a mere 100miles from here, I should have to leave home before 5am to get the train in order to get the plant entered by 8.30am ( that is the rule) and the train fare would be £85 . Not very user-friendly, the RHS system, in fact designed for people living in or close to London, and never brought up to date. So I think I shall have to forego the hoped for pleasure.

Strange. Treid the attachment earlier. I'm doing the same with the Aussie Dendrobium. Water and fertilize like mad when they're growing, dry bright winter (when the sun co-operates) rest and a very small pot. Too bad about not being able to get your orchid judged. No younger members in your society who would be willing to drive it up for you?

May be BD can help.

Concur with Chris. 85 pounds seem way to expensive. Going along could be a better option

I have driven there in the past. Problem is, London traffic in the rush hour. I can do the 75 (?) miles to the outer parts in an hour and a half easily, maybe quicker withe motorways, but the last 25 miles can take 2 hours....

HBD Geoff. Wishing you a great year ahead. Nothing could be more satisfying than seeing our orchids bloom on this day. Very happy that Den Berry 'Oda' is smiling at its best on your B'day.
