Shipping Vanda seedlings

Hey all, I was hoping that somebody could offer some suggestions for shipping Vanda seedlings so that they would survive the two-three day trip.

Hi Ryan,

I don't know that the type of seedling will matter much. First off, if your shipping between areas in the U.S. with 90-100+ temps this week, I'd wait till it cools a bit. I'd also go for 2 day or overnight shipping, since there's less sitting around in some overheated warehouse for the package. It's not a big deal when temps are more moderate, but it becomes an issue in extreme heat and cold.

Make sure the plant is watered the day before you wrap it up. You don't want it get too dry on the trip, but you don't want it to rot inside its packaging, either.

Cover the pot media with something (paper towel, wax paper, newspaper, etc.) and tape the 'somthing' securely to the pot. That keeps your media from falling out.

Wrap some newspaper around the pot and tape it so the plant sits inside a newspaper cylinder. Then fold the top of the paper over to form a tent that protects the leaves, and tape it or staple it to secure the top of the tent.

The rest is pretty simple. Lay the plant in a box on a bed of styrofoam peanuts, and fill the box with peanuts, making sure the plant is completely surrounded top and bottom. That will hold it amazingly snug.
