Draining Humidity Tray

I was asked if I watered my plants in place over their humidity trays, and I don't because they will overflow. However, I did order some trays that were made to drain... while still keeping a low level of water for humidity.

Here is a photo. The pluses are not having to move all the plants to the sink to water them and then let them dry. And with the wood slats they are much more attractive. The minus is that watering in place you have to be careful of water running off leaves onto the floor. And the spacing is fairly wide, so nothing under a 3" pot.

Nice trays , sure beats having to bail water out , when I had mine in the house I used a shop vac.. was a mess . Gin

I'm still dragging everything to the sink. Haven't had any luck at all trying to water in place because I like to run copious amounts of water thru them--and have definitely had the "run off the leaf onto the carpet" problem you mention. I'm using those plastic grid type trays to catch drips and maybe help a little with local humidity.

I have a couple of plants that are inside so it doesn't seem to be too much of an effort at this stage... but if it ever gets to the stage where I have a fifty... well...

Thats the drain tube. I set a bucket under the tray (which is on a shelf) and the tube hangs down. When I water the excess drains out the tube and into the bucket. the tube has a nice little brass plug that you can put in to make sure nothing drips once you have drained the tray as far down as you like.

Diane, those are fine looking trays you have - from where did you order them?? I use home made units which are not nearly as exquisite as yours, but they are not on display (in my basement).
