    I remember being told at one of the big Thailand vanda breeders that the good yellows are triploid forms. Diploid are paler ( I saw several of those in the wild in Thailand earlier this year ). Tetraploid are almost brown - not attractive at all. All this is due to more or less layers of the coloured cells, rather than any difference in the pigments. Hence the difficulty in getting this colour into the big flowered kind - the triploid is sterile.
