I'm very pleased with this orchid this year. I've had it at least 5 years. It went from about a dozen flowers last year to between 40-50 this year. Smells delightful!

Nice job Sheryl! It will continue to give you more blooms as it grows, I now have mine in a 10 inch hanging basket and I get more each year. Surprised yours is just opening, mine is almost done and it started blooming in March.
Well done Sheryl! I've given up on this one. 3 strikes and you're out!
Looks great, Sheryl!
I remember the late Walter Rybaczyk mentioning that every time he was around this plant in flower, he had to have a piece of coconut pie!!!![]()
I guess my slightly cooler weather dictates a later blooming? Wow, mines getting heavy enough in the 8 inch. You must get some weight training in with yours!

Thanks Alan. Hmmm, maybe some coconut cake (my favorite!)
I never managed more than the odd flower when I grew this, many years ago. But I had no idea at all about resting in those days - thought that every plant in my greenhouse had to be watered every week.
I think you have inspired me to try again ; I will look out for it at the next show - next month we have our Malvern International Orchid Show" - best one in UK for buying... held as part of a big County show - with cattle and sheep classes, a dog show, vintage car show and goodness knows what else ; but it is a long drive for me , nowadays - 3 hours if the roads were clear, but 5 hours each way last year. ( I believe our roads are the most overcrowded anywhere ). I am going on Friday afternoon, staying in a hotel a few miles away ( the ones at Malvern double or triple their charges when there is a big show on ), see the show on Saturday morning, and then return home in time - I hope - to cook an evening meal for myself and wife. So I won't have time for anything but the orchids - a pity, but there it is.
Geoff, I don't give mine a winter rest as far as water. We had a colder then normal winter for the whole state then we have had in a long while, I think it helped with a lot of my orchids getting that extra chill, no freezing temperature for me in the southern part of the state but those north of me did get a few freezing temps at night.
The Redland Orchid Festival is two weeks away and that is the biggest spring show in the US, would not miss it for anything!
