survived 2 days at 113 degrees (95 indoors with ac, and mid 80's at night, low to mid eighties at night for the past few months) and Remo still produced 2 flowers 3 weeks later!...trooper! I guess I'm testing lowland summer rainforest nightime climes, not by choice...

These hot temperatures are a great trial for flowers ; I find that the plants I have had for several years, having several years worth of roots, keep their flowers very well. Ones I have had a year or two ( or even only months) have flowers which are short lived. Our problem here in Europe is that when plants are prepared for export from South America - where many cattleyas in the trade come from, they are dried out, and we have to nurse them to produce new roots, and it takes years to get several sets of new roots. It makes it very difficult to even import some species successfully - I am thinking of amethystoglossa especially - it has to make a complete new growth and rest before it can make new roots - and all that time it has to live on roots which have been near destroyed by the preparation for export process.

Thank you for the info. That explains why my flowers only stay open for 1-3 weeks, not the 4-6 weeks i read about...thanks for the previous culture tips also! My operation/collection is still less than a year old, i've read it can take them a few yrs to acclimate...I lost my first plant, a laelia purpurata aco, arrrgghhh! in the heat..it was my tallest specimen at 23"..it did bloom though last month, but the leaves turned yellow tipped during the heat, and then the whole thing was yellow in 4 days! like radiation damage!... I have about 45 other catts doing well, but i was worried... I added 6" distance between light and plants due to summer heat, less footcandles but no leaf damage, knock on wood...a dowiana seedling is looking dryish but hanging in there...daytime highs in the 90's seems manageable but over 110 is deliterious even with ac...I have amethystoglossa hanging in a 10" pot, it has sent out 3-4 new growths, 3 times this year!11 total new growrhs, but no sheaths yet...maybe it has to grow over the pot...many old writings recommend waiting 3-4 yrs to repot if they are not flowering...I see that a lot, overgrown specimens really producing...

With the heat you are getting, where are you located you have never mentioned that.
