Thank you for the info. That explains why my flowers only stay open for 1-3 weeks, not the 4-6 weeks i read about...thanks for the previous culture tips also! My operation/collection is still less than a year old, i've read it can take them a few yrs to acclimate...I lost my first plant, a laelia purpurata aco, arrrgghhh! in the heat..it was my tallest specimen at 23"..it did bloom though last month, but the leaves turned yellow tipped during the heat, and then the whole thing was yellow in 4 days! like radiation damage!... I have about 45 other catts doing well, but i was worried... I added 6" distance between light and plants due to summer heat, less footcandles but no leaf damage, knock on wood...a dowiana seedling is looking dryish but hanging in there...daytime highs in the 90's seems manageable but over 110 is deliterious even with ac...I have amethystoglossa hanging in a 10" pot, it has sent out 3-4 new growths, 3 times this year!11 total new growrhs, but no sheaths yet...maybe it has to grow over the pot...many old writings recommend waiting 3-4 yrs to repot if they are not flowering...I see that a lot, overgrown specimens really producing...
