Gift Paphiopedilum (Allegro 'Cheetah' x Provocation 'Flame')

I was given a Paphiopedilum As a gift. This one is supposedly a complex hybrid, the tag reads
(Allegro cheetah X provocation flame).I have had Slipper orchids before but they were warm growing… This one has solid green foliage, so am I correct in assuming it is a cool growing plant? This is a new plant for me grow wise.I am not exactly sure as to what sort of growing conditions I should supply, would appreciate any info anybody is willing to share. Also does anybody have a clue as to what the bloom will look like? Thanks!

I wish folks would learn how to properly document the names of orchids. Fortunately, they didn't screw it up too much. There are no such hybrids, as typed. My best guess is that you have Paphiopedilum (Allegro 'Cheetah' x Provocation 'Flame'). Allegro and Provocation are the registered hybrid names of the parents (the cross is not registered), with the cultivar names in single quotes.

Nope, not cool growers. Treat the solid green ones to about the same temperatures, although maybe with slightly more light than their mottled-leaved relatives.

Thanks for the info Ray...I have to admit this is a nice little plant, most of the time people don’t give me orchids until they’re ready to croak,And they are tired of dealing with them.Would this be OK under lights? Right now I have it sitting on a window sill With mini phals. A Can’t really complain too much,At least this one has a name tag, most of the time they don’t!

Anything can be grown under lights. What are you currently growing that way?

Cattleya seedlings… in an enclosed tent which receives natural daylight from a window in addition to hi output Fluorescent grow lights, and some CFL lights... temperatures typically reach 79 to 80° with humidity 75 to 80% there is a small fan which runs for air circulation… Seedlings are doing well, even the ones the mouse chewed....

That sounds like a reasonable environment if you can increase the distance from the lights compared to the cattleya seedlings.

You stated you have grown mottled-leaf types. Why not just grow them next to those?

The mottled- leafs were years Ago....I grew those on the window sills in my kitchen and bathroom.
I may just leave this one on the window sill in my kitchen. Wish me luck! Thanks for all your patience and help!
