Has not flowered for several years - due, as I realised about a whole bench of plants - to inadequate light. The bench is below the part of the roof where a few hundred dendrobiums hang, and take all the light. When I realised this I installed some lights ( Sunblaster strip lights) and when I started to get a lot of spikes, but rather pale flowers, I doubled up - and now have two rows of the same lights., low enough to touch some of the leaves. I hope for better colour , next time around.
This is an old hybrid - predates all the modern stuff using besseae, and now kovachii, but still, I like it. The plant also has some sentimental value as I bought it from the late ,great, Keith Andrew, when he was clearing his nursery as it closed down, about 1992. Of course it has been divided etc many times, and I must have doubled what I paid, in prices for bits I have sold - and that is at the cheap rates offered when plants are sold at my own Society meetings.
Will produce branched spikes, and go on flowering for many weeks. So, may not be big, bold, bright, but with charm and IMHO an asset in the collection.
Maybe I'll try growing on to multi-growth and multi-spike size, now that it is flowering again.
