A Dendrobium Mystery

I was encouraged to ask this by the last two posts, \

I've had this dendrobium under my care since November/October. It came in bloom, I think. This is one of the first three orchids I ever cared for.
Its a NOID Dendrobium from boxstore (or so I've been told).

Can help me ID this, or try to ID its parents if its a hybrid.
Right now I have it growing in an easter exposure window at the office, but its nothing compared to what it would get in the easter exposure windows at home.





Since these pics were taken, it has 2 new growths, and lots of new roots. But I Can't help but notice that all the new growths are straining to reach the window. Should I take it home and place it in my strong eastern exposure window?

It's cute. Orchid-Man can probably help you identify the general type of dend it is. Exact hybrid would be impossible because there are so many.

It looks like it is hard cane based on Dendrobium schulleri which is from Niugini.

If it is straining to get to the window it is indicating that it wants more light.Also office building normally have the window tinted .

I place a phal in my boss office against a south facing window, the plant loves it. I guess the tinted window explains it.

And what kind of growing media is this? Its one big chunk, and I don't see how it could ever be repotted ever!



If you look at the first post, I put the old picture and the new one side by side for comparison. The newest leaf on the closest cane to the camera has not grown one inch!

the potting media is coconut husk.

That coconut husk can be soaked and broken away from the roots, but it's a big pain. Just work carefully so you don't break any roots. I think it's worth doing, however. I hate when they pot them in it!

It's already starting to look a bit worn on the top. When do you think I aught to repot? And into what? Would it do well in S/H??
