You'd think so. But I've made peace with my inner orchid. I've accepted that it's ok to hate some Dends one in particular. And it's still possible to love others. Now, getting them to love me will require some persuasion.

But I still hate that one with the crappy little flowers that won't bloom. Even tried to give it away. Tami didn't want it!

It was a Christmas gift from a dear friend - an older fellow whose wife died eight years ago. He knew I loved orchids and asked some knothead what to get me - the supposed authority said this was the best. I kept it only because I care so much for him. And the keikis are fun to play with!

McJulie, you crack me up!!! How long have you kept it? And what happens with all the keikis? They have a way of multiplying and they just got smaller and smaller and smaller ... Hehheheeeeee ...

awww... I just googled images of it and it is pretty!!! it looks like it's in the phalaenopsis/biggibum tribe of Dendrobiums so maybe it needs a fair amount of heat and light...

I got it for Christmas in 2004. In May 2005, it put out its first keiki. I mounted both the mother plant and the keiki on a cork slab, because I wanted the pot for an orchid I cared more about. The first keiki is in the middle of the picture, curving at you, and has a second growth on it. In March 2006, the mother put out another keiki. I left it on until late July, mostly because I just didn't get to it. But the new keiki is nearly the size of the mother plant. It's on the right.

Mom's got to be pretty tired, so she'll probably throw off another one. Stressed plants tend to produce more keikis - it's a survival mechanism. If you're going to die, quick have a baby first.

Whoa whoa!! I never said I didn't want it! I said my husband would KILL me! I don't want to die!!!! I have orchids to live for! Beside, how can you part with such a sentimetal and fun gift? With all those babies, it might even commit suicide and end your problem. heehee
