I'm not certain, because there's no key, but I believe Jay's section/subsection info is for the above-named plant, not the species that follow.

He does list mattogrossensis as a sometimes var of rossiana, which is in the Xanthanthae subsection - the deciduous yellows. Your other parent belongs to the deciduous pinks. That would make the culture more straight forward.

I PM'ed Pat Mahon about mattogrossensis it can be handy having a taxonomist around! and he said it's the same species as rossiana each described and named by two different guys in the late 1800's, and belongs to the Xanthanthae subsection: the yellow deciduous.

I bought a Lycaste breuvispatha X matagrossens at the Ark. club auction would appreciate growing tips , I did some reasearch but would rather hear it from my OT. friends . Gin

Hi Gin,

I grow the Lycaste brevispatha up here in Spokane Washington. I don't give it any h2o other than a daily misting after the end of November. I also give it more light, either move it closer to indoor lights, or higher in the greenhouse. After the leaves are brown you can cut them off, or just cut them off anyway around December if they are still green. I seem to always get a good bloom out of it this way.
