Ahhh, but grasshahppah...patience is a leaned virtue....
ok, enough references to "King Fu" and David Carradine.
Well, to report...at first it is always difficult to tell if the seeds are turning brown (not a good thing) or if the change in colour is the beginning of green (since they are pretty much nothing but a small collection of cells at this point). This morning was really the first time I can say "yeah,I am pretty sure that there is some green in there". The flasks that are pod parent Mildred Reeves are showing more signs of life than the pod parent gask...but again, pod parent would dictate germination and the other possibility...one that is not the best situation...is that when we sterilized the seed, we really did STERILIZE the seed. When I move the flak around, I can still see that there is material in there, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. We are now aproaching the two week mark, which is about the time to see some visible signs of activity. I'd try taking a pic, but even a macro lense wouldn't be able to pull the resolution for the pics to show much.
On a different flasking project though, the first flask I did of Laelia anceps var alba is ready to be replated...I held off for a while since I wanted to root development before I flasked them on. It may actually be worth putting these guys into a compot of damp sphag instead of a replate since they actually are getting sizeable.
If it is any consolation, I flasked Restrepia brachypus the day after the Catt. flasking project, and I haven't seen any activity in that flask either (and sterilization was done with H2O2 instead of C2H6O (ethanol).
