I love the outdoor shot too. It looks ..... achievable maybe? Like something you could see in your own orchid world. The studio shot is beautiful. Very ethereal.
Okay...I'm going out here on a limb!
The outdoor shot is compelling, but I prefer the better control of lighting and more accurate color saturation in the studio. There's too much reflected light in the outdoor shot to see the colors fully.
If you're thinking of a monograph set of photos, Nelson, I'd go for whatever setting gives the most accurate representation of the flowers. Asthetics count, but for this type of work, I prefer color asthetics over background ambience. Of course, in situ photography is a whole different discussion.

Perhaps we were all answering two different questions:
1. Indoor vs. outdoor; and,
2. Which picture do you like more.
I just looked back over them, and do prefer the angle and lip detail more on the outdoor shot, but I like the color much better on the indoor shot.
Okay. I'm done now.

Okay. I'm done now.
Pssssttt....I think you need a stiff drink. Would you join me for a an absolut vodka - laced mango calamondin coctail?
Why Nelson, your drink sounds like one of Gin's exotic birds!
"Yes!" is the ready answer. I've just got to get me down to the Philippines! I'm not sure at all on the mixology of your suggestion, so I'm marking time with a single malt until we can straighten out the details and flight times.
