It's OK Breeze, you can still participate. All you need to do is eat way too much and sit around and watch football. And then you go take a nice nap! And, of course, be thankful!

Heehee. I forgot one thing--after you spend all day cooking everyone disappears when it's time to clean up the kitchen? Maybe that's just an American tradition. LOL

Well...the plans are shaping up and I'm looking forward to tomorrow!

Plimouth Plantation is at the site of the original pilgrim's settlement and is where Thanksgiving was first held. It's about an hour from here and I have good friends that used to live just down the road from it, so I've been to the plantation many times. It's worth a visit. The Plymouth Rock is not. Quite unimpressive!

The indians were very instrumental in helping the new settlers adapt to life in New England and taught many useful survival skills and techniques. When the pilgrims wanted to honor their friends and express their thankfulness, particularly to Tisquantum aka Squanto, and the Wampanoag chief Massasoit, they planned a feast and invited them as guests of honor.

When Massasoit and his people showed up, he looked at the food that was planned and said, "You want us to eat this?" He sent serveral warriors out and they brought back venison, ducks, fish and lobters (the Wampanoag were primarily fishermen.) This was what was served at the first Thanksgiving. It's believed that turkey wasn't on the menu.

So...in honor of Massasoit's contribution, I went out and bought me a big, honking lobster for my dinner tomorrow! Then off to friends later in the day so I don't miss out on pie!

I thought you were going to tell us that you found some Indians to hang out with tomorrow--or, maybe your friends ARE Indians! At any rate, as you promised, plans are falling into place. Good! We will stop worrying about you.

But lobster on Thanksgiving? Can't imagine that--but I'm not a seafood person. I love turkey, but I'll think we'll be tired of it by the time the week is out.

Cool to live so close to Plimouth Plantation.

Julie there is always turkey TV dinners ummm good .... Not ! we are going out to eat .. I would get the lobster too ,but they taste like cardboard in Mo. Gin

Actually, my choices were: Thai friends and some hotter than hell curry, or Canadian/German friends. The latter are having a business meeting in their home. Not! The former are eating hot Thai curry. Another not!

I'm quite pleased with a quiet day to read, catch up on some watering, watch football, chow on lobster and then experience a bit of someone else's family angst over pie.

Sort of captures the holiday!
