Here is where colour variation in a species is illustrated well.
I found the first three plants in the market at Chatuchak, in Bangkok. I did not know what they were, not even that they were the same species. The colors were very fascinating so I clicked away, amidst the dust, exhaust fumes, and clutter of the small stall with the vendor who barely understood English. It was so hot and humid and I was sweaty, with my allergic rhinitis starting to get the better of my nasal system. No tripod and the breezes were constant. I set the plants on top of the flasks filled with barely identified orchids, hence the glare.
Too bad I did not heed advice to get an import permit from the DENR, so all I got to take home were Ayutthaya-period style brassware that I hand carried, and that weighed like huge boulders.
The last photo is from a plant in the King’s Garden, also in Bangkok.
