I agree use the car , sorry about your loss of plants.
Right now I am trying to keep the enclosed porch at 40 not below can't run all the electric things at the same time so anything that plugs in out there can't use . I have the green house door cracked open a little it will run the guts out of the GH. heater .. At least the propane company will be happy . Gin

Gin, it sounds awful where you are. My sister just called and said that she and the kidos are sleeping in the living room near the fire place because their power is off. They live in Eastern Texas. She decided to stay home because she has a bird and fish and didn't want them to freeze.

Sounds like we all have our share of problems with the cold weather. We have spent the day trying to solve problems with burst heating pipes in the walls of our bedroom. It's supposed to be -16F here tonight, and practically as cold for the rest of the week. Since there is no heat upstairs now, I have to keep the fireplace going non-stop tonight to keep things from getting worse. DH has to leave on business tomorrow, so it will be just me figuring it all out. Plants are fine; they are in a part of the house unaffected by the burst pipes.

I hate winter.

As bizarre as it sounds....22 is our predicted temperature for tonight!
In the desert. A lot of damage to our valley's citrus crop and ground vegetable crops. If you wonder how this affects you, it will cause your produce prices to rise.

On the news this morning I heard proof once again that (native) Californians are not fit to live anywhere cold. Someones pipes froze, so they crawled under their house and poured Boiling HOT water on them. Of course, that caused the pipes to break. The resulting flooding washed out the backyard of the home and caused a mudslide that flowed down into the pool of the house below!
