Lady Isabel very short spike

Here is a pic of my Lady Isabel, not fully opened, but I am leaving at 8:00am for 3 weeks. I have no idea why the spike is so short. I just wonder if she will survive my absence...

that's lovely! actually, your short stem warrants a question. I have two phals that I bought in bud about a year ago. their stems were quite long, i'd say at least 14 to 16 inches long. both of these plants have produced new spikes this season and they are both now in bloom. however, this time the spikes are quite short. one is maybe 7 inches long, with six buds and the other is about 9 inches long with seven buds. is there something in my care of these orchids that is making their spikes come up short? i wouldn't have been bothered if it hadn't happened with two plants. what do you think?

There is correlation between high light and short spikes though.

Dont worry about the length of the spike. It will continue to grow.
To reassure you, looks at this roths, the first bud opened on the level of the base.

looks like it has nice color! and stems can often be shorter in higher light, as mentioned. or it's genetic or just this blooming.
