It's gorgeous, Jason! But I don't quite understand how it's potted. Does the wire basket sit in a little water? Making a pseudo-S/H setup that allows a lot more air?

Or do you use the pellets as the basket's potting media, and water normally once a day?

Either one is intriguing...would the first case offer any chance of wicking, or does S/H require some slight pressure gradient offered by the walls (albeit perforated) of the vessel?

the s/h serves as the media...It normally doesn't sit in water, and I spray it from the outside of the basket daily or twice daily depending on weather, and water the thing every 2-5 days depending on the temps/weather. When I'm away for a while I do let it sit in water, so the s/h will do some wicking. (yes that's blasphemy for a vanda but it's either that or let it get bone dry for days). this is still highly experimental but so far, so good.

the color on the petals tends to darken over time...I think with higher light they might actually get almost solid magenta.
