Dendrobium finisterrae...... minus 10 floof factor

This is a Latouria Dendrobium species I've grown from a seedling. This plant is approximately 5 or 6 years old now and just finished blooming for the first time. The spike originally had 4 additional flowers that blasted. They didn't like the insecticidal soap I used near them. I'll definitely be more cautious in the future.

Very neat dendrob! I hope the flowers are fragrant since I have this plant too, it has never bloomed so I am curious.

Thanks for posting it---I have a finisterrae that I bought last year as a seeding too. I'm relieved to know you bloomed it in your window (so I have hope). Any special instructions? Sometimes you just never know what will work or not. Plus I love these interesting flowers...I have Den. spectablile now too.

Smartie, yes it's VERY hairy. If it were me I'd get waxed...ouch!! lol

Gin, Thanks. BTW, I might finally get to build the GH this summer. It's been on hold too long!

Hoa, It didn't seem to have much fragrance that I noticed, but then again I didn't check it at various times of day. Also, it's in a tough location to get my nose close to.

Cindy, good luck with your finisterrae. I think spectabile is very cool looking too and on my wish list. As for the finisterrae I grow it intermediate in fairly strong light, but ALL my 'chids get booted outdoor to various protected locations during the summer months. They are much happier and reward me with more prolific blooms.
